📜 History and Origin of the Name
Konni was formerly known as Konniyoor. The Tamil term 'Kon-ti-oor' means "the village where the king resides." 'Kon-ti-oor' evolved into 'Konniyoor' and subsequently into 'Konni'.
The ancient history of Konni is inextricably linked to the early history of the Pandalam dynasty.
🌳Natural beauty and landscape
Geographically, Konni is part of the *Malanadu* (highland) region. Konniyoor is a region blessed with scenic beauty and abundant natural resources, featuring high mountain ranges, low-lying paddy fields, scattered rocky outcrops, marshlands, and forest wealth. The village is situated along both banks of the Achankovil River.
🐘 One of the two major elephant-capturing centers in Kerala is established at Konni.
