Jagratha Samithee

Jagratha Samithees are constituted with the objective of receiving complaints regarding violence against women and girls, denial of freedom, and violation of rights, intervening to resolve such issues, and working towards creating a social environment where such problems do not occur. The functioning of Jagratha Samithees, which operate under the leadership of Local Self-Government Institutions with the support of the Women's Commission, is a process that must be carried out with utmost seriousness and precision as per Government Order G.O.(MS) No. 31/07/SWD. To strengthen their functioning, systematic monitoring and follow-up activities are carried out from the grassroots level up to the Women's Commission level, with the support of the Social Welfare Department, Local Self-Government Department, and Home Department.

Jagratha Samithees have been constituted and are functioning in all 20 wards of Konni Grama Panchayat. To support the activities of the Panchayat-level Jagratha Samithee, an Assistance Committee comprising persons from various fields has been constituted. A legal assistance system consisting of advocates has also been established to provide legal support. In addition, Ward-level Jagratha Samithees function to bring the activities of the Jagratha Samithee closer to every woman and to facilitate the reporting of issues concerning them to the Jagratha Samithee. The 11-member Panchayat-level Jagratha Samithee is headed by the Grama Panchayat President, while the ICDS Supervisor serves as the Convenor. The Police Sub-Inspector/Circle Inspector, a woman Panchayat member, a woman advocate, and social workers representing Scheduled Caste/Scheduled Tribe communities are among the members.
